it's gonna be landscape format (which is 10x8)

the softcover would run in the $20, the hardcore in the low $30

10.09.07 (And This Is How It All Ends Up)

the phototrippin across america roadtrip started off on July 10, 2007 and i got back home to jackson, ms October 8, 2007. 88 days on the road.

this is the film evidence of the times

21 rolls of 120 film.
134 polaroids! (38 shots of 420 and 96 shots of 600)
and, according to flickr, 752! digital shots.

*whew* :)

what comes next? well, scan in the polaroids and go to the darkroom to develop the 120.

then, gallery show :)

and i'd just like to say many, many, MANY thank yous to all my family and friends that let me crash with them, fed me, gave me money, took time out their day so i could shoot them, put up with me, took me to comic stores, geeked out with me, checked up on me to make sure i wasn't laying dead in a ditch in the middle of freakin nowhere, and many more things. THANK YOU.

i'm a very lucky man to have such great people in my life.

our country is a really beautiful and huge place. i can see why some people join the armed services to fight for it. which is why it's so important to use all the goodness of it in the right way and not by waging illegal wars (oh come on, i'm the artsy-fartsy guy that went on a photo road trip. of course i'm a liberal guy) ;)

had a great time in texas with rion and court and seeing emily and mike :)

sorry for the radio silence but, really, there just wasn't enough time in the day to blog and kill alien scum and save the galaxy for the better future of humankind (in other words playing halo all damn day and night. but we did succeed in beating it so yay to the yay!)

also add in two good photoshoots with emily and mike and rion and courtney and, i have to say, texas was pretty good to me this time

(except for the fact that trying to find your way around the dallas metroplex area is a pain in the f'ing ass. ugh)

anyway, time to hop back on the road and head to the gulf coast to see and crash with nancy and see aunt laura and uncle marshall and oscar jr. while i'm there. yay for 9 hour drives! *shudder*

ok, i actually have a good excuse for not updating for a few days this time. no really. read on

got to courtney and rion's place in one piece last sunday night. first time i've hung with them since they got engaged so it was cool seeing both of the rings :)

ok ok, i'm sure ya'll are wondering about the no-updating excuse. well....halo 3 just came out and as we were walking around a grocery store i mention to rion that i've never played halo and didn't even know what the storyline was. after a severe beating and the removal of some geek points we proceed to play the first halo after we get back to the apt. holy sweet christmas that game is made of AWESOME!! LoL. so, pretty much, we've been playing that non-stop. the plan is to try to get through all of part one in one week. anyone who's played halo should know that won't be an easy feat (rion has to work). and there you go ;)

anyway, been having a blast. i'll be going to see emily saturday afternoon (i think she lives about 30 minutes or so away in dallas. i'm in plano at the moment)

anywho, that where things stand in the land of pat at the moment :)

well, sunday has come around and now i'm getting ready to pack up and head to texas to spend a week with rion and courtney (and to see my friend emily to boot)

i really had a great time hanging with tracy in springfield. it's cool hanging with another survivor of MCA and talking artsy-fartsy crap :p

yesterday she took me out to the family farm and her parents drove us around their land in the pickup. i had a blast trying to find the horses ;) (joke, you had to be there)

they really have a lot of really beautiful land out there in those hills (hills, not mountains. joke, had to be there)

anyway, took many photos (which i'm sure won't do it justice) and had a blast

buy anyhow, i need to quit stalling and get the car all packed up. so, i'll "see" ya'll in texas! :)

*whew* so i've had a full day today/yesterday (since it's two something now)

so i had a blast seeing angie and her boys (and her future hubby) monday night and tuesday day. caught up on old times and played the Wii with her boys. (mason is pretty good at Wii Golf and Bowling) tuesday night i hopped back on the road to springfield to meet up with tracy

tuesday night was mostly us catching up on old times and being filled in on the new times. wednesday she had to work and today/yesterday (thursday) we:
- went to silverdollar city in branson
- rode rollercoasters all day long (and i surprised myself by letting tracy talk me into riding some i usually wouldn't ride)
- got soaking wet at said silverdollar city (water rides are fun)
- went home to change clothes
- went to go see Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World's End at the cheap two dollar theater. (that movie kicked ass)
- came home and now here i am (tracy's asleep)

gotta say, it was a fun day.

it's a sunny 66 degrees in the windy city of chicago and i'm about to head back out from shar and matt's place for more exploring and picture taking

drove through alot of mountains (on the way to columbus, ohio from hampton, va) and decided that i love them :)

(but man, those roads get long sometimes. of course, only getting a few hours sleep the night before a 8+ hour drive probably had a little to do with it too) ;)

made it to Hampton, VA and chillin at my friends cory and karen's place. they have a very nice house. (and when did they get so handy with tools?!) :p

anyway, this one is only a short stop. as soon as i hear from alex (when he gets back from GenCon) that's when i'll be heading to Ohio from here. (it's a 9 hour drive so i hope it isn't too late) :)

and now, off to try to get some sleep :)

well, after a phone call from my sis, i've discovered that folks actually do keep up with this blog and when i don't post, that's when the phones start ringing trying to figure out where i am. so, sorry for being lazy and not posting :)

everything did go to plan and i did make it to kristin and sean's (and matt lives there now too) the night i said i would. got there a little later than i'd planned on cause a severe storm blew through right after i'd got the car all packed up so i waited it out with leah and will, watching Avatar: The Last Airbender

but after the storm i made it to their place and crashed there until yesterday (8.24.07)

it was cool hanging with them again, since the last time i saw them was back in the, what, late 90s/early 2000s in starkville

so yay for hanging out again :)

after i left there, i headed to rain's place. rain was leavin' for atlanta around 1pm so we meet up at 10am (well, that was the plan, but i got lost due to mapquest letting me down so it was more us meeting up around 10:15) and we headed to the Duke University Gardens.

wow. it was beautiful there. i mean, really. add to that rain being a kick ass model and you had the ingredients for a photo shoot made of AWESOME. i shot it with my rolli, my polaroid onestep closeup, and A.E.Jones (the polaroid 420 that i got from my mama 2)

after we left the Gardens, we went to the Cathedral on the Duke Campus. wow yet again. had a quick shoot there (quick because film and time was running out. rain had to get back to meet her ride to atlanta, and we still got back after he got there. d'oh!)

anyway, a good shoot.

currently, i'm still at rain and her hubby, pontus', place. they're both out of town till sunday (for rain) and monday (for pontus) so i'm pretty much housesittin :)

if all goes to plan (yet again) i'll be heading for uncle anthony's in charlotte monday. :)

whew, even though i've had access to a computer for as long as i've been crashing with leah and will, i've only now sat down to type up an update

bad pat!

anyhow, had fun hanging out with skyla dawn and her lady in jacksonville. spent the night with them, had a photoshoot with skyla early the next morning (both of us weren't used to being up that early, i don't think), and them hopped on the road for a 7! hour trip up to cary, north carolina to see leah and will.

and i've been here for the past few days, hanging out, rocking out with guitar hero, watching anime, reading books, chillin with alison, JJ, mike, etc and being AWESOME.

finally bought some more polaroid film. thank god, it's been too long since i've had my fix.

also went to see Superbad with leah, will, and alison and let me tell ya...that movie is funny as hell. go go go see it.

the photoshoot went well and, just like all the rest, i really can't wait to see how they come out.

hmmmm, trying to remember if there was anything else....

oh yeah, i'm now hooked on Avatar: The Last Airbender. in fact, i may have to sign up for netflix just so i can find out how the first season ends. damn you leah and will for your drug pushing ways :p

well i should probably go hop in the shower and off leah's mac so, off i go.

i'll be heading for kristin's in raleigh tonight (if all goes to plan)

i don't know what it is about florida and it making me drive through storms the like of which haven't been seen since noah, but despite the weather yesterday, i made it to amber's place in one piece.

hung out with her boy and her crew, went out to dinner, then played soul caliber II (the gamecube version. also known as the best version ;) ) till we all went to bed. good times :)

looking forward to our shoot today, after she gets off work.

plan on leaving florida weds so all my north carolina peeps give me a holla and let me know what ya'll schedules are looking like :)

think that's about it.

oh, just found out that one of my favorite comic artist, Mike Wieringo, died yesterday of a sudden heart attack. he was 44. r.i.p. mr. wieringao.

8.10.07 (phototrippin day 32)

made it to armrest's and her hubby's place (my cousin tracey and jerry) in one piece last night around 11 pm.

heh, it's always weird to see tracey acting all mom like :p

anyway, the kids were already in bed when i got there and jerry was out of town on a business trip so it was just us hanging out and talking till trace fell asleep in the chair (all part of her plan, you see) and i crashed in the guest/jeremy's room.)

the trip from atlanta to jacksonville was ok, for the most part. (besides two traffic jams, a car on fire causing one of them, and the two "oh my god it's the second coming" downpours i drove through not withstanding)

i'm planning on shooting my friend skyla dawn tomorrow afternoon (saturday) and then heading down to clearwater to hang and shoot amber. i should be leaving for her place sunday afternoon.

still not sure if i'm gonna get a chance to see and shoot my friend sara down in groveland yet. she's a little overwhelmed with life right now so not sure if there's gonna be time.

anywho, off to shower before everyone gets home from work/daycare :)

EDIT: oh, and the shoot with jen and alice went really well. :)

8.07.07 (phototrippin day 29)

had a great time hanging with marti and erin and their boys in birmingham. when i left their house (after a pretty slick photo shoot. vulcan park is just beautiful) i headed to my dad's place and crashed there for a night before heading to atlanta to my sis jen's place last thursday. and this is where i've been since then.

had a shoot with my friend russ who also lives up here (but didn't get a chance to meet up with mary *shakes fist at work schedules*) and i plan to shoot jen and alice tomorrow (which will be wednesday). (was gonna do it saturday but jen wanted to get her hair done first, you know how sister's are) :p

i just now got back from the High Museum of Art and checking out the traveling exhibition of one of my favorite photographers Anne Leibovitz (thanks for telling me about it russ)

really, really great work they have up. nice and big and, dare i say it again, great.

thanks to it, i am revitalized. revitalized i say!

i have to admit, i had started to feel the burn a bit, but now, i, like he-man before me, have the power! ;)

so, looking forward to the shoot tomorrow and all the shoots to come later after i get back on the road thursday, going for jacksonville.

EDIT: oh! almost forgot! finally saw my Aunt Linda and Uncle (big) Brian (and chris) for the first time in almost 10 years last night :) and they fed me too boot! yay! ;) (their house is really nice. ma, you should really make time to go out there) :)

as soon as i post this i'll be hopping in the car and heading to marti's place in birmingham, al!

(couldn't head to nashville because amanda is in atlanta at the moment with her band and won't be back for a bit, so i'll have to try to hook up with her later in the future) :)

had a good week in memphis/olive branch/horn lake. got a chance to shoot cody and marsh and steph but didn't have time to get jaime, jeff, michael, adrenne, or kerry. d'oh!

i've made it back to memphis/olive branch in one piece.

really had a blast up in the mountains of gatlinburg with girl pat, her 3 girls, jim, aaron, sarah, and jon. (oh, and girl pat's mom!) :)

let's see, what else what else.

oh! bought the new Harry Potter friday. finished it by saturday night. damn that was a good book :)

had a photo shoot with my friend cody today. it went really good. i thinking i'm really gonna like how they come out.

tomorrow i'll call to see who else is free and has time to shoot tomorrow. if no-one's free, then i'll just run jon back to s'ville and wait to see who's free wednesday.

(note to myself: don't forget to buy that new warren ellis novel coming out tomorrow) :)

about to get ready to hop in the car to ride up to gatlinburg (girl pat rented the mountain treehouse #2145 cabin if you're curious) with aaron, sarah, and jon to meet up with girl pat up there in the mountains.

doubt i'll have 'net up there so i'll update when i get back to memphis

well, made it to memphis in one piece and survived joey and amy's party :)

crashed at marsh and aaron's and am just now, really waking up

(speaking of the party, met some cool people there. and people who i know i've met before *waves at amy* and people who i'll probably meet again *waves at abby* talking a lot about comics which, let's face it, is always a good time) ;)

i'll probably chill out today, drop by and see J&J later on tonight, come back to M&A's to crash so i can wake up and play Marvel all day sunday.

then see when people are free so i can start to shoot them monday

7.13.07 (phototrippin' day 4)

it's day 4 and i'm getting ready to leave starkville for memphis

had a blast in s'ville (as per usual). shot everyone i wanted to ('cept for a few but, like Patton said, "i shall return!")

saw my cousin leslie and her hubby to be reggie and lil morgan. first time i've been there where it actually looked like a little kid lived there ;)

got to hang out and have a fun photoshoot with hanh, which was cool beans. she was a real trooper. "hey hanh, walk out there in that tall grass, with your open toe shoes and no socks! yeah, that spot with the mud and all the bugs flying around! watch out for the rusty nails! ok, now smile!" but she was down for whatever and that's always cool :)

girl pat got me way to drunk on free drinks (why o why didn't i stop drinking after that first long island) :p

met some cool old guys that are part of a work crew building a new wendy's down here (which is who i got drunk with. well, them and stacey and [will add name of stacey's boyfriend when i can remember it!]

hung out with laura hackman who, as always, rocks like a 9.5 earthquake (and she let me borrow "The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy" and let me crash at her place. you can't beat that!)

had a photo shoot with liz which rocked (even if it was hot as hell) "ok, stand over by the window and..." "and what pat?" "oh i'm sorry, forgot how to talk after that river of sweat got in my eye" ;)
